A Stitch In Time
Taught by her mother in Canada at age 12, Char obsessively pursued sewing, eventually earning her Degree in Fashion and Textiles and working in the fashion industry for over a decade. Disheartened by the ruthless grind and reckless pollution of the industry, Char went back to her roots creating sustainably made garments with her own hands and sewing machine. Mu’u House is the culmination of a lifetime passion for all things vintage, life in Hawai’i and the art of fashion.
"I first came to Maui barely out of teens, when cell phones didn’t exist and no one used the internet. Life was radically slower and magically sweeter. I find myself holding that time dear, now that I’m rapidly approaching my golden mu’umu’u era. I love creating garments for people who value intentionally made Aloha Wear. It’s incredibly special and unique to Hawai’i and I am grateful for the opportunity."
When not in her sewing studio or raising her keiki, Char moonlights as the Program Co-ordinator for the Fashion Technology program at the University of Hawai’i, Maui College, where she instructs aspiring designers in the art of fashion.

Art & Aloha
Our print collections are designed by artist Cara Mancini Geros. Born and raised in upcountry Maui, she is forever inspired by the beauty of her island home which shines through in her illustration, painting and surface pattern designs. Hand illustrated, her botanical prints pay a beautiful homage to Hawai'i.
“In a world where we find so much noise, pressure and distraction from ourselves and our surroundings (hello technology), my art practice allows me to connect to place and community sharing the beauty of this world. To me, making art feels like spreading aloha. With it comes intention and a continued and keen observance of the natural world. Creating prints for Mu'u house brings me back to small kid days, exploring Maui's rugged coastlines and pristine forests... making lei and connecting with family and friends through Hawaii nei.”
Cara’s experiences growing up in the Pacific along with over 20 years in Australia, have enriched her love of culture, nature, creative collaboration and storytelling expressed through art and design.
